Your sewing machine will work much better if you clean it and oil it frequently. It will also make it work more quietly. For most sewing machines, you will be required to remove the threads and dust that accumulate at every job you do before putting a few drops of oil on it. It is especially important that you use only best sewing machine oil.
Follow the instruction manual.
Each brand of sewing machine is unique, so it is best to consult the manual that came with your machine for more information on how to oil and clean it.
Some manufacturers recommend cleaning the machine after 10 hours of use. Clean it from the moment you notice that the dust begins to accumulate there. On some older machines, you will see a red mark indicating where you should apply the oil drops. On the other hand, they are pictures that will tell you where to put the oil.
If you do not have a copy of the instruction manual, you should be able to find one on the manufacturer’s website. You might even be able to download it. If this option is not available, contact the manufacturer and ask for a copy. For this, you will be asked to provide the model and the name of the machine, without forgetting certainly the serial number. You could also ask a local supplier.
Some sewing machines do not need to be oiled with best sewing machine oil. These are in fact self-lubricating. Such machines, however, will have to be maintained, but if it is notified not to oil them at home do not do so.
You must take the time to make sure you do not use too much oil. It is best to use a small amount of oil and see how the machine responds. Subsequently, you can put more if necessary. Also take care to put a piece of newspaper under the machine while you work.
Apply oil to small areas simultaneously. You should remove the small surfaces of the machine, piece by piece, in order to oil them. First examine the marked drawings in the instruction manual so that you can understand the name and role of each part.
Disassemble the parts by following the instructions provided in your manual. You have to follow a process starting with dusting the room, brushing it and then lubricating each part.
Once you finish with each part of the sewing machine, you will have to put everything back together and then take care of another piece of best sewing machine oil. Remember to change the needles regularly. It is advisable to do this each time you start a new job on the machine.
Prepare the machine for cleaning:
It is essential to clean the machine before oiling it. First of all, you have to stop the machine and unplug it. Remove the needle plate. If your machine has a spool pin, you will need to remove it, because dust may accumulate at this level. For safety purposes, it is also advisable to remove the needle from the machine.
